What silicones do

Silicones coat the hair. That can make it feel smoother, look shinier, and comb more easily.

How to spot them

Silicone names often end in "-cone" or "-siloxane", such as dimethicone or cyclopentasiloxane.

Why fine hair may skip them

Some people with fine hair find that silicones weigh it down. Some prefer products labeled silicone-free, or use a clarifying shampoo now and then.

What "silicone-free" means

It is a label term. It means the formula leaves silicones out. It does not mean the product is lighter or better for your hair.
