Start partly dry

The AAD advises letting hair partially air dry before you style. Blot with a towel first.

Lowest heat that works

The AAD advises the lowest heat setting and a heat protecting product. Excessive heat can damage any hair type.

Lift at the roots

Dry the roots first. Point the airflow up from the scalp, or flip your head over.

Round brush

A round brush can help lift roots. Work in sections and keep the dryer moving.

How often

The AAD suggests using hot tools less often, aiming for once a week or even less, and air drying when you can.

Less heat, more lift. Direction does the work.
